THE ASSOCIATION OF MEDICAL RECEPTIONISTS (GOLD COAST)

In the mid-1980’s medical receptionists occasionally came together for meetings and social events arranged through local hospitals. These get togethers were a forerunner to the inception of the Association of Medical Receptionists (Gold Coast) Branch in September 1987 by founder, Kadie Moyle now Cheney. At that time receptionists tended to be working in isolation from other practices. Since its first meeting the Association has grown and has become a well respected and highly professional body. The Association’s aim is to provide social, moral and educational support for our colleagues. Our motto is “Courtesy Care and Compassion”.

The Association holds regular monthly Committee meetings and general meetings with informative and entertaining guest speakers. It produces a monthly members’ Newsletter, holds educational workshops, professional development sessions and social events to enable members to fraternise with colleagues on subjects of specific interest to medical receptionists.

The Association holds a Seminar every two years at a leading Gold Coast Hotel, and the next Seminar will be held at the Watermark Hotel, Surfers Paradise on August 9th 2008. These Seminars are very popular with local AMR members plus attendees from Brisbane, Northern NSW, Sunshine Coast, Rockhampton, Bundaberg and North Queensland.

For a number of years the Association had a monthly achiever award, which was made to a receptionist nominated for outstanding work performance and patient empathy. This award was replaced by the Practice of the Year Award.
